Spring/Summer 2013 Maybelline Color Tattoo Swatches and a new line at walmart?

So I recently acquired two of the new Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos from the beachy summer line!  After looking up swatches before me, I decided that I would not go crazy and get a lot of colors, since I usually prefer a neutral look ( I wear glasses and I haven't yet found a way to incorporate colors onto the already tiny eye space I have).  Anywho, I did get the Frosty Shores color and today I found another I hadn't even read reviews about--Precious Pearl!

I figured that since the Precious Pearl was a neutral, I'd show it with the other lighter beige colors I have--Barely Beige and Barely branded.   I did with and without flash to show mostly how different the Frosty Shores looks like in different lighting.

(From bottom to top:  Barely Branded, Barely Beige, Precious Pearl, Frosty Shores)

I ended up with the Frosty Shores first, and used it as a base and lid shade, then put Matt Johnson and Matt Hung from thebalm's Meet Matt(e) Nude Palette--and it looked so pretty and polished even though I had blue on my lids!! It can go on sheer or you can build it to make the color more visible--but the sheen it has is so nice!

I haven't yet used Precious Pearl, but I think it will be nicer for a shimmer light natural eye.

On the second topic of the day, I was in Walmart today and discovered (randomly, and in the old bonne bell section--with the bonne bell signs still up? lol)  something kind of cool!
I'm assuming it's a line of cosmetics for peeps with darker skin tones, which is really neat! I had never seen anything like this, so I thought it was noteworthy enough to share.  Love the tagline--so true!

Popsicles and ladybugs! I'm outskies.

April 2013 Ipsy/Glam Bag!

I got my first ever Ipsy/Glam Bag in the mail today!!

I had been thinking about joining a subscription-type thing ever since I learned about Birchbox a couple years ago.
Then I heard about Ipsy, and looked up some reviews.  The result of these being my subscription to Ipsy, as more recent reviews of Birchbox are not as good as those of Ipsy.

Anywho, the theme of the bag is "Pretty in Pink" and I have to say...I'm liking what I'm getting so far, and for different reasons!

  • White, water-proofy feeling bag with a pink patent detailing
  • Sation Nail Polish in Love At First Byte (a pale coral/peach/pink!)
  • Be A Bombshell Blush in Sweet Cheeks (a bright pink that swatches into a really pretty shimmery color)
  • Two Cosmetics Eyeshadow Duo in Heartbreak (shimmery light pink, matte mauve-ish color)
  • Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal

Thoughts:

Alright, starting out with the blush--I was worried a tiny bit about the color until I swatched it.  It's super pink, super girly, but seems to blend out well and looks like it will be pretty wearable. The consistency is what surprised me when I first touched it--SO buttery and silky, wow!  I'm looking forward to putting it on my face, pretty much.
I was originally really wanted the other possibility for the eye shadow, which was a mineral loose kinda of more natural looking color.  However, after swatching these colors on my arm, I think I'll be a-ok.  I feel like I don't really look that nice in pinks around my eyes for some reason, but I think the shimmery shade in this is light enough in the pink-zone that it won't be too crazy for my lids.  The matte color is a bit of a darker pink, but because it's a matte, I think it will actually work very well to kind of tone down the shimmer of the first shade.
Can't say much about the hair stuff now, but I'm looking forward to trying it, although I haven't really tried anything new for my hair because I've been using the CHI silk infusion for literally YEARS.
As for the nail lacquer, I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like on.  I don't have a color like it in my polish collection as of yet, so that's a plus.  When I opened the bottle to see the color a little better, I did notice that it's not very opaque (which is a slight bummer, as I've been really into more opaque shades lately), but I think it will turn out alright because, as it turns out, I've also been looking for a nice spring pink nail polish that isn't loco crazy.

All in all, I am excited to try out this stuff!  I wasn't planning on putting much effort into makeup tomorrow, but now I feel like I kind of have to, with all this new stuff to try out!

I also can't wait to see what's in next month's bag!

Sweet cheeks and heart breakers! I'm outskies.

Drugstore mini-purchase!

So today I was in Rite Aid killing some time and scoping out any new spring products and discovered a bogo 50% off all Revlon lip products! I had seen the Colorburst lipgloss in the color
papaya on Youtube and fallen in love with it, but can't seem to find ANYWHERE (maybe it's got a different name in the UK?).
Anyway, I checked out the colors they had anyway and immediately my eyes were drawn to these two.

Atomic Pink and Strawberry!

(Strawberry on the left and Atomic Pink on the right)

I also picked up a pretty pistachio-green color from Sinful Colors (inexpensive nail polish is a weakness of mine...$1.99 anyone?).

And then I figured I'd post my nails because I painted them last night.  Please excuse my cuticles and messy painting job (I swear, usually it's much worse than this lol).

I've got on Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure on the bottom in Calypso Blue and then on my ring and the tip of my pointer, it's Sinful Colors glitter in Lush Life.  In the bottle, the glitter is a different tone than the blue, but on the nails they match perfectly!

I also did my makeup using my brand spanking new Meet Matt(e) Nude palette and my Hot Mama blush from the Balm, so I might post something about that at a later time.

Porcupines & strawberry shortcake!  I'm outskies.

The Balm Dot Com!

So most of you probably heard about the highly-anticipated 24-hour 50% off sale that the Balm set out to start on April 1st.  Well, it turned out that everyone and their brother (sister?) did too, which caused the site to crash like nobody's business.  They are currently updating (and expanding) their server, and are postponing the sale until that process is finished!

However, little old me was able to get through (after much refreshing and quadruple-checking to make sure that everything I had tried to fit into my cart had actually gotten there), and I made my first purchase from the Balm!

I didn't really know much about this brand.  I had seen some of the products being used by Youtubers I subscribe to, and was interested in learning more about it.  After the briefest of research, I heard that the blushes and eyeshadow palettes were good, so I knew I wanted to try some. I had been looking for a palette similar to the Urban Decay Naked palettes (Since I still at this point cannot justify $50 for an eyeshadow palette, haha), and decided that I wanted to try the Nude 'Tude from the Balm.

Plus, at 50% off, how could I RESIST?! I couldn't, of course.

I literally could not WAIT to get the items I had ordered.  They came yesterday, and I opened them ASAP.  I haven't gotten to use all of them yet, but once I do, I will write more.  Maybe a short post about each product as I use them? We shall see, we shall see.

Here's what I got!

  • Hot Mama!--peachy, shimmery pink blush
  • Frat Boy--light pink, oh-so-innocently-perfect blush
  • Instain in Toile--strawberry matte blush
  • Instain in Swiss Dot--peachy matte blush
  • Meet Matt(e) Nude--all matte, all nude eyeshadow palette! (Two because one's a gift for my little sister--shhh! Don't tell her!)
  • Nude 'Tude (Naughty)--an awesome mix of shimmery and matte eyeshadows in one adorbs palette

First Impressions (before use):

Firstly, I love love LOVE the packaging.  It's retro and has character and everything is sort of cheesy, but awesomely so.  It's got a sort of soft feel to it as well--not shiny and smooth, but sort of...velvety feeling?

The Instain blushes are a LOT brighter than they looked on the website.  Not a problem, but I know that the blushes from this brand are pretty pigmented, and that these blushes in particular are supposed to be longer-wearing, so I will have to work with them to tell more about them.

The shadow palettes? I can't even wait to try them.  So psyched.

During the wait to receive my package, I did a little more research about some of the other products from the Balm.   And now, of course, I already want to buy more.  Hurry up, server expansion! :)

P.S.  I heard that you can sometimes find the Balm products at TJ Maxx and Marshalls??? I looked it up, but everything I could find was dated last year.   Next time I go to TJ Maxx, I'll have to look to see if I can find any goodies.  'Twould be awesomesauce.

Peace and cupcakes! I'm outskies.
